…The compelling reason for maybe choosing some sort of god or spiritual thing to worship […] is that anything you worship, will eat you alive. If you worship money and things in life, then you’ll never have enough. Worship your own body, beauty and sexual allure and you’ll always feel ugly. and when time and age start showing you’ll die a millions deaths. the whole trick is to keep the truth up front in daily consciousness. Worship power, you’ll end up feeling weak and afraid. Worship your intellect, being seen as smart and you’ll end up feeling stupid, a fraud, always on the verge of being found out. The insidious thing about these forms of worship is not that they are evil and sinful, it is that they are unconscious, they are default settings. They are the kind of worship you kind of gradually slip into, day after day, getting more and more selective about what you see and how you measure value without ever being aware of that’s what you are doing. And this so called “real world” will not discourage you to operate on your default setting, because man, money and power comes merrily along on the fuel of fear and anger and frustrations and craving and the worship of self…
